A St. Pete inspection is fundamentally a corrosion inspection, plus the usual structural and electrical checks on roofs that are often ninety years older than the array bolted to them.
Salt aerosol from three sides
Tampa Bay to the east, Boca Ciega and the Gulf to the west. Very few St. Pete homes are more than a mile from salt water, and salt film re-establishes within weeks of every clean.
Bird activity
Gulls, pelicans and pigeons are constant, especially near the waterfront parks and downtown. Droppings are acidic and fully opaque.
Traffic and downtown grit
I-275, 4th Street and the downtown core add a fine carbon film that binds to the salt already on your glass.
Old Northeast and Kenwood bungalows with steep shingle and some barrel tile, Shore Acres and Snell Isle waterfront tile, flat and low-slope on midcentury and downtown properties. Steep older roofs and fragile tile both push us toward ground-based pole work.
We inspect the inverter and any optimisers or microinverters for fault codes, error history and abnormal operating temperature, open and inspect the combiner box, and check DC and AC disconnects. Connectors are checked for corrosion and correct seating, and grounding and bonding are verified end to end.
Rail alignment, mid- and end-clamp torque, standoff and flashing condition, conduit supports and roof penetration sealant. Florida wind loading finds anything that was under-torqued at installation, and finding it during an inspection is dramatically cheaper than finding it after a storm.
St. Petersburg sits outside Hillsborough County, so a $50–$100 travel fee applies depending on routing. Booking alongside a neighbour usually removes it.
